I just want to see where you all came from and why you chose derby.

I myself just started back in Jan. I didn't skate but maybe 5 times since 1999. As a teenager I played ice hockey and speed skated, but my favorite was just session skating. If there would have been pro jam skaters then I would say that I would have been a pro. It seems that that wave didn't hit till after I started racing motocross. Well enough about me I wanna see what your stories are.

One more thing I'm not the young person I once was! Motocross almost ended everything and this is why I'm skating again.

I have been skating since I was 3 or 4. Mama was a quad figure skater. I took a 13 year break & started back when I started teaching my son. One weekend at the rink someone came up to me and told me I skated pretty good & should check out the Socialites, who were having an open boot camp that included a men's team that was forming called the Rebels. I didn't know derby still existed and having come from a speed skating background thought the idea of hitting someone on skates was crazy. But, I wanted to check it out so I went to the Thight Scream Social. I felt like I skated okay, I learned a lot and decided this was a way an old fool could compete. I didn't know I'd end up loving it so much. BTW, I'm a freakin' old guy, past 40. That's the short of it all. I have a lot of great friends out of it all, I get to skate and I think one day they'll stop feeling sorry for an old guy & tell me to hit the road, lol, but I'm going to give em hell til they do. smile Glad to see you here... come check it all out & enjoy.

P.S. I'm not fond of wrist guards either... I think they suck! But, it's well worth it to be fortunate enough to play smile

The first time I ever put on any kind of skates started around this time last year. I attended ROSI (Rollergirls of Southern Indiana) practice with my girlfriend, Kimmie S'More, as a "ref" so I could learn how to skate for free. Never really reffed.

First time I actually was on the track in a pack or even jammed was during the Rebels "A September to Dismember" back on September 25, 2010.

Been playing ever since.

That's cool as hell how you all came to play derby. I'm 34 now and since I started skating again I feel younger each weekend!

I hadn't been on skates since I was about 15. Then this crazy ref for Naptown, Roller Dex, told me that he was going to be coaching a newly formed women's team and would be trying to form a men's team as well. It took me about 8 months, but l finally bought some skates and tried it. I have been in love with this sport since that first practice on Super Bowl Sunday 2010.
