Howdy!

As the Race City Rebels prep for our season, I thought it would be fun to have an introduction thread for fans, skaters, helpers... everyone, really. So post up here and tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am The Hawt Rod.  I'm a fresh meat and don't have a position yet and am looking forward to kicking some ass on the track with my Rebel brothers.  I'm an engineer geek thru the day and avid hot rodder, vintage bike enthusiast and new derby dude by night.

Now it's your turn!

Good idea, Hawt Rod.

I'm K-Shock. Also fresh meat and looking forward to honing my skills for maximum kick-assing on the track as well. By day I'm a music and education major at DePauw, so I play the trombone a lot and spend the rest of my life with my nose in a book or reading articles on a computer. The eventual plan is to be Dr. K-Shock, in library sciences or musicology, or both.

Outside of that, I have interests in weird sports (the chief being curling and bowling), early surrealist art, video games, the internet, books, and hitting people on skates (because that isn't weird at all).

Dave Atonement here -- formerly Jewbacca  sad face (it still hurts) -- I guess I'm somewhere between fresh meat and sort of veteran?  No clear position -- but I doubt I'll ever be much of a jammer  Wink -- that said, I hope I can become a solid utility player doing a little bit of everything reasonably well.

I've started eating, sleeping, dreaming roller derby and in the process become a real gear head.  I'm learning as much as I can about boots, plates, wheels, bearings, etc. mainly because I hope to be able to help newbies avoid most of the mistakes I (and many others) made with gear when 1st starting out.

I'm married to a derby girl and we have a daughter who is almost three.  We both teach/work/go to grad school at Purdue and hopefully in about two years I'll be Dr. Dave Atonement.  evil smile

In my 6 years in Indiana, the Race City Rebels are the second best thing to have happened to me -- directly behind the birth of my daughter but ahead of starting my Ph.D. No exaggeration.

My name is Upchuck Norris! I am 24 years old and I have been skating with the Race City Rebels for about 8 months now.

I am both a jammer and a blocker.

I credit my girlfriend, Kimmie S'More for getting me addicted to roller derby. If I hadn't met her a year ago, I would have never been apart of roller derby.

I have a degree in Law Enforcement and hope to earn a job with one of the many fine police departments in the Indianapolis area very soon.

I am straight edge, I love hardcore music, and collect both vinyl records and band t-shirts from said music genre. Weather you like it or not, I love to joke around.

I am Ron Scaremy, I am 39 years old and am the very first Race City Rebel. I started practicing derby / reffing in April 2008 with the Circle City Socialites, always wanting to one day have a mens team to play on. Slowly but surely it came to fruition, now we have thirty plus members and are continuing to grow. I am primarily a pivot or blocker, but can and will jam when needed.

I live on the east side of Indianapolis, with my wife ( Circle City Socialite ) Lady Miss Bier and two dogs. I graduated from Carmel HS and have a bachelor degree in fine arts and art history from Herron School of Art / IU. I work for the Great Frame Up picture framing and am a bagel maker at the Bagel Fair in Nora.

Besides derby, I am also the drummer for metal band Devil To Pay and surf band Destination: Earth! DTP has seen national and international success, charting on the college music charts twice, three national tours and a ton of local and regional shows. DTP and D:E! are both currently working on our fourth cds.

I also enjoy collecting. I have a huge music collection, 1700 cds and 450 vinyl records. I also have a Star Wars room in our house, floor to ceiling Star Wars, mainly vintage but also have stuff from the newer movies too.

When not practicing derby, we really enjoy hiking our state and national parks, the dogs like it too.

I am Fat Chancellor, I'm 29 years old, and I've just arrived home from watching my first bout.  I talked with Jamburglar a bit about coming to a practice to see if I can get involved in roller derby.  As far as skating experience, I only have a little on roller blades, and that was years ago.  I'm eager to learn though, and the practice schedule matches up well with my free time.  With the name I've chosen, I suppose I should strive to become a great blocker.

I live in the Carmel/Westfield area, and I work as a web programmer.  I'm also into music and gaming in my spare time.

Hoping to get in on things soon! Looks like great fun!

my first name ain't baby, it's mister, macabre if you're nasty.  i am a slave to the barnes & noble corporation (westfield location), am the president of the indianapolis star wars fan club (the indy knights), co-own a paintball field (paintballindiana.com), cannot be killed by mortal means, and love announcing derby.  i started out announcing for circle city and that snowballed into a derby lifestyle.  i own 4 cats and live in carmel, having bought my parents' house.

I am Amelia Pound. Took me the good side of a year to finally come up with a name. I am Paranoiac and Badeline Kahn's room mate and am 25 years old. I'm learning how to skate and am looking around for volunteer opportunities (maybe photography?). It's just a bit of a hard thing to do since I don't get out of work until 6pm Wed-Sat. If anything I will be going to whatever bouts I can and cheerin' folks on! Actually... the very first bout I ever went to was this past Spring Roll where I was able to catch the final match of the RCR. So, very much the newbie, very much the wanna-be, and now... very much the fangirl.

JDUB-

We're glad you could join us!  I'm still new to the derby world, so I'll let one of the more experienced peeps give you some hints and tips - but I wanted to say hello, and that I look forward to meeting you!

I was at the adult session sun night and met a couple of you. I'm not good with names but they gave me a card with the website info and here I am. I took a long break about 10 or so yrs to be exact. I started skating again in Jan. and I skate every weekend. I take my kids and then usually every sun night I'm at the west rink or I shoot down to Robbins roost in ky. I hope to see some of you at a session soon and I will be at one of your upcoming weekend practices.

Thanks JDUB

Oh, wonderful!  I was one of the people there on Sunday smile

Did someone mention the pads for practice?  Because there's contact, skaters are required to pad up (knee, elbow, wrist, helmet, and mouthguard) in order to hit the track. Some of the guys might have extras, if you need to borrow something smile

Cool I have knee pads and a helmet and mouth guard. Are elbow and wrist optional? I prefer not to wear them. I never used them in ice hockey so I'm just asking.

I'm gonna have to pass on this hobby. I just don't like them type of requirements.

Thanks for the info. I hope to see you another time to skate and have some fun.

I still will come and check out a practice. I just will have to think about it. I have done a lot of things and just never used wrist guards and I used one once when I was 13 just because I couldnt race do to jacked up wrist but as soon as I could hang on to the bars  without it that thing was gone never to be seen again. lol
I am still interested Im just stubern.

I will say that when I'm just out and about skating around I don't tend to wear pads (despite everyone telling me how stupid I am). But once I gear up for derby, it's not even a second thought -- the elbow and wrist pads are so necessary, just with the amount of times they will save your bones when you get knocked on your ass by another skater.

So I understand where you're coming from, but one good hit will make you a believer.

I'm Quad Almighty. I'm number 7. Does anyone else have number 7 yet? (If so, I'll have to fight you for it in a cage jam.)

I live in Ohio, just south of Dayton. I am the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Rollergirls.

For the past three and a half years, I have been playing with Harm City Homicide (Baltimore, MD), but the commute has gotten the better of me. I want to focus closer to home.

I started a men's team, the Cincinnati Battering Rams, in July 2012. We have about a dozen guys. It's coming along, but we're still several months away from really bouting, I think. They're great guys, and they're hyper-motivated. Hopefully, some of them will start coming with me to RCR practices.

I'm not abandoning the Rams, but I'm old. I don't know how long my body will let me do this. I want to compete at the MRDA level. I intend to keep doing what I'm doing with the Rams to try to get them bouting and working towards MRDA membership. When they become a MRDA team, then we'll see what happens. Until then, I'm a Rebel.

I have been skating with Dex since 2007. We started MMRD (Midwest Men's Roller Derby) together in 2008. Some of the guys like Ronald have known me for years, and can vouch that I'm a total bastard. I've been playing pretty constantly in some capacity for five years for all but three months last year, when I broke myself at a Jammer Clinic I was supposed to be running for Circle City. (So, that went real well.) I'm a proud member of BERZERKER! (Hail Megatron) and Team SeXY. I'm sponsored by Atom Wheels.

I look forward to (officially) skating with you guys and putting on the Rebels uniform. I hope to win some, lose some, and leave behind a sexy corpse. DEATH BY DERBY! Go Rebels!

Well, hi.
Most of you already know me in one way or another. I skate as Danger Zone; but most people know me as Spyder in every aspect of my life. I've been on the fringes for years; but someone finally lit a fire under my arse and told me to go full tilt or just quit. So here I am. I live in Dry Ridgr, Kentucky and am a trainer for the BlacknBluegrass Rollergirls.
Am I missing anything?

Hi! I'm a noob. Going to be coming out to practice this Sunday. I don't have a whole lot of skating experience, but I'm reasonably well-coordinated and hopefully in a good starting position fitness-wise (ran 3 marathons in 3 months last fall). I'm 35, from Westfield, and my wife is with CCDG (Katniss Severspleen). Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hey guys! I'm An Act of Quad. I have been a Rebel for the better part of a year now and keep myself busy with work, school and reffing/ playing derby. I was introduced to the sport by a friend of mine at work who was on Naptown. It took some time but her fiance finally coaxed me into coming to a Naptown practice to start reffing. This is where I fell in love with the sport and have reffed for Naptown ever since. It wasn't until reffing my first Rebel's bout that I seriously considered joining the team am I'm glad I did. I'm a Computer Information Systems major at Ivy Tech and hope to transfer to a four year college here shortly to go after my Computer Science degree where my main area of focus will be software development.
