Open Discussion / Help Wanted / Re: Volunteers for CCDG Home Opener 4/21 Sign Up Genius!!!

Why not sign up genius?
Sign-up genius doesn't allow me the freedom to rearrange the schedule or set people in positions they are experienced in and it consistently had problems sending out group emails for me. What I am going to do is spend this season building a sort of e-mail rolodex of all the people who are trained officials that can work for CCDG bouts and start group e-mailing myself and using officiating groups on facebook to get a wider swath of trained people interested.

It's me and it will be coming some time next week. I will no longer be using sign-up genius.
Attention anyone who wants to NSO for this: please e-mail kshock@racecityrebels with your preferred positions and experience. If you do not have experience I will require you to come to a CCDG scrimmage before I roster you. Thanks.

Can't wait for this bout! Looking forward to seeing what the Butchers have been working on since you last played them. Also looking forward to a Derby Cake, cuz I don't have to skate tomorrow. We can eat Derby Cakes on the sidelines while we coach. Is this where you show up 5 minutes late with a cupcake in hand?

Open Discussion / Gear / Wheels: Borrow Before You Buy
|
on: June 08, 2011, 04:20:33 PM

In recent weeks, I've been looking for other types of wheels to get when I get that elusive stuff called money. Over on the CCDG boards, they have a section where everyone posts what wheels they have and are willing to lend for a practice or two before buying. I thought that would be a fantastic crossover thread.
I don't know if we want to use their same rules, but I'll post them verbatim from the thread via Cruel Whip:
DO post what wheels you are willing to offer out on loan DO (at least) include the brand, name, durometer and width DO include the number of each type (e.g., 4 or 8 )
DO edit your original post when you get new wheels (or get rid of old ones) DON'T make a new post every time you get new wheels--edit your original post!
DON'T ask to make arrangements in this thread DO PM the skater to make arrangements

There's no thumbs up smiley. Great job this weekend with all that stuff. I was too busy yelling to have even caught most of that.

One more suggestion -- on the table, can you make the calculations only reflect points per jam when individuals play as jammers? For example, Dex is listed as scoring 2.5 points per jam because he was in as a blocker on 13 jams which brings his total jams to 16. In all reality, his PPJ was over 13 because he scored 40 points in 3 eligible jams.

So as boring as just skating in circles CAN be, it's really really good for you. Just make sure you're working your form into that, and your stride, eventually, even if it hurts.
Isn't that where the whole hitting people thing came from? Seriously, though. Keep it up. I was just where you are now a very short time ago and it's hard to keep in positive spirits. You'll improve faster than you can imagine, though.

I am going to be writing down the penalties that you obviously won't commit, so I need someone that can do a live feed to twitter and facebook during the bout. It's really easy -- catch me this week at practice or by e-mail and I'll show you how to set it up.

Can someone advise me on how this discount compares with discounts I could get around here on skate parts? I'm looking to get my own pair, finally, and I'd love to support things around here, but a discount is a discount at this point.

I wish it were cheaper - the stones are really expensive and curling isn't big around here, so they have to work around the ice hockey rinks in the city. If it were more accessible, I'd be doing it a lot more. At least some Canadian TV sometimes streams some matches over the internet. I haven't watched much since the last Olympics, though.

If I hadn't joined derby, I'd likely be trying to train for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Circle City Curling has some very nice people who'll let you try it. Make a date out of it.

Good idea, Hawt Rod.
I'm K-Shock. Also fresh meat and looking forward to honing my skills for maximum kick-assing on the track as well. By day I'm a music and education major at DePauw, so I play the trombone a lot and spend the rest of my life with my nose in a book or reading articles on a computer. The eventual plan is to be Dr. K-Shock, in library sciences or musicology, or both.
Outside of that, I have interests in weird sports (the chief being curling and bowling), early surrealist art, video games, the internet, books, and hitting people on skates (because that isn't weird at all).

I suppose I should pose another question, then: where are good stores that would have this equipment? Dick's Sporting Goods didn't help me out much when I was first looking before I started practicing.
